Express Newspapers, 1966. Seemingly extremely rare, with no other examples yet found, doubtless in large part owing to the rapidly changing designs and hastily produced nature of such ephemeral material. It’s a simple, yet suitably bold and eye-catching design of a multicoloured football with a luggage or gift label attached with a bow, this bearing a Union Jack design. Sixty years later, England’s 1966 World Cup victory stands as one of the most defining and proudest moments in 20th century English history. At the time, the Daily Express still had the largest circulation in the country, having risen from around 2 million copies daily in the 1920s to over 4 million in the 1940s, which it retained under the stewardship of Lord Beaverbrook until shortly after his death in 1964. 760 by 500mm (30 by 19¾ inches).
