Vintage marine skene bow chocks
Vintage Marine skene bow chocks (often referred to generically as boat chocks or fairleads). 1920’s-1950’s era Heavy-Duty commercial or large-yacht-grade vintage marine chocks. Function and Design •Purpose: These heavy-duty fittings are mounted onto the deck or gunwale of a boat to guide mooring lines and anchor ropes safely to dock cleats. •Skene Design: The inward-curving, overlapping hooks create a “closed” path that prevents the rope from slipping out accidentally while the boat is tossed by waves or shifting tides. •Material: These are cast from bronze or brass. The distinctive green coloration blooming on the surface is verdigris, a natural patina that forms when copper-based alloys are exposed to moisture, saltwater, and air over long periods of time. •Industrial Size: A length of 9 1/8 inches qualifies these as “9-inch class” heavy chocks. They are built to safely handle large dock lines up to 1 1/4″ to 1 1/2″ in thickness, typical for classic wooden boats, trawlers, or yachts in the 40 to 60-foot range. As found, definitely have been mounted / used at some point. No huge gouges dents, just normal wear. Should polish up nicely. 9 1/8” x 1 1/2” wide 4.6 lbs each 1-pair available $345/pair
