Autumn’s Peek, Banff

Banff National Park, AB The Boss of Banff, Canada’s most famous grizzly bear, was enjoying the fall crop of berries as he prepared for hibernation. It was a challenge to capture this image of his refuge in the dense forest, given the number of branches, twigs and other vegetation. When The Boss came around the tree, I waited with my lens in anticipation. I saw the orange-coloured berries and knew I might have a split-second opportunity to capture the moment. This big giant, in his old age, was feasting on the last remnants of berries. These large grizzlies can eat up to 200, 000 berries per day! Needless to say, they are well adapted in acting as a vacuum as they gather up this nutrition. At the old age of 28, for The Boss, these berries are a great source of energy before his winter sleep.
