INTRODUCTION TO BOXMAKING: Solander Box 22/08/2026

Suitable for beginners or those with some bookbinding experience. Join us for practical, hands-on workshops led by experts at the London Centre for Book Arts. During this workshop participants will learn to make by hand a box with a hinged lid perfect for storing, archiving and presenting books, prints and anything that needs safe-keeping. Originally invented for use at the British Museum to catalogue their natural history collection, the Solander (or "clamshell") box or case has become a popular box construction with a wide array of uses. Upon completion of the workshop, participants will leave with their own hand-made Solander box (in their choice of covering materials) and the skills to make more at home using minimal equipment. All materials and tools provided.
