Ercol Windsor Dining Chair Vintage

This Vintage Ercol Windsor Dining Chair encompasses a u-shaped, bent wood seat back as well four turned spindles. Not only does it provide a comfortable sit but it looks beautiful too. The design exudes elegance with its clean lines and soft curved edges, the ideal addition to your dining table. The chair is in great condition and has a contemporary look with the baby blue-grey paint finish. What we understand of this design is that the chair bow is steam bent from a single straight ash rail into this amazingly tight radius bend and then sanded and shaped to give its subtle and elegant profile. Traditional wedge joints, where the legs come right through the seat and a wedge is then inserted into a cut, before the leg stump is hand sanded flush with the seat, both provide a lovely design detail and a very strong joint. Further strength is provided by the H-underframe. This listing is for one chair. Each chair has it’s own unique paint finish. Ercol Ten year old Lucian Ercolani and his family moved from Tuscany to London in the late 1800s. He later graduated from Salvation Army schooling to attend night college, learning the furniture trade in Shoreditch. The young apprentice soon found work with Frederick Parker, a leading figure in British furniture and the founder of Parker Knoll, one of the largest furniture makers of the day. In 1920 Ercolani founded his own business called Ercol. As the designer, Lucian created timeless furniture designs celebrated for their soft, sculptural curves and ground-breaking use of bentwood. In 1964, Lucian was awarded an OBE (Officer of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire) for his notable contributions to British design and manufacturing. In 2010 Lucian was posthumously awarded the prestigious Design Guild Mark for his legacy of work. Ercolani helped popularise the break from the heavy, ornate pre-war styles towards a new clean lined, simple elegance.
