Kit Fox Outfitters in collaboration with the San Dieguito River Park (SDRP) is offering a 16-Hour Wilderness First Aid (WFA) Certification Course. This nationally recognized wilderness medicine program aligns closely with SDRP’s mission and long-term vision by expanding educational opportunities that promote outdoor safety, leadership, and responsible recreation. In addition, this is a fundraising opportunity, with a portion of course proceeds going directly to San Dieguito River Park in supporting the conservation, restoration, and educational initiatives, creating lasting benefits for both participants and the Park. COURSE DESCRIPTION This course is designed for individuals of all backgrounds and experience levels who work, recreate, or travel in outdoor and remote environments. It teaches students how to assess, manage, and stabilize injuries and illnesses when professional medical care may be delayed. Instruction emphasizes hands-on skills practice and realistic scenarios to build confidence and real-world decision-making. No prerequisites required Minimum age: 16 years old WHAT YOU’LL LEARN Patient assessment and documentation Management of traumatic injuries Medical and environmental emergencies CPR and epinephrine auto-injector use First aid kits, supplies, and evacuation planning Leadership and patient care in remote settings COURSE OUTLINE Introduction: Legal & medical concepts Patient Assessment & CPR Traumatic Injuries Medical Emergencies Environmental Emergencies Epinephrine Auto-Injector Administration Supplies & Planning (First Aid Kits) CERTIFICATIONS INCLUDED Upon successful completion, participants receive the following 2-year certifications: Wilderness First Aid (16-Hour) CPR Epinephrine Auto-Injector Use and Administration Curriculum materials and certifications are subject to change. COURSE FORMAT & LOCATION Schedule: Class runs from 9:00 AM – approximately 6:00 PM each day. End times may vary based on class size, questions, and breaks. Location: San Dieguito Lagoon Ranger Station 15699 San Andres Dr., Del Mar, CA 92014 Format: Classroom instruction Hands-on skills practice Realistic outdoor scenarios Participants should wear comfortable clothing that may get dirty or damaged. We recommend bringing a junk T-shirt for moulage (fake blood) and improvised splint practice. Attendance is required for the full course to receive certifications.
