Black Signature Denim Jacket Design Notes The Mkono Mrefu Signature Denim Koti: I created this jacket as an exploration of proportion, restraint, and elongated structure. Form and function have always been central themes within YKM, and I’m drawn to designing transitional garments that can shift silhouettes depending on the person wearing them — allowing the piece to reflect mood, movement, and personality. The jacket was built with adjustable sleeves that can extend past the hands or shorten into a more traditional proportion while keeping the cropped body silhouette intact. The high neck collar, curved chest paneling, and hidden front closure were intentionally designed to reduce visual noise and allow the shape of the garment to speak first. Matte hardware runs throughout the sleeves, while tonal embroidered YKM branding across the back and my Yussuf Kassim Manzi signature along the front closure were added as subtle finishing details.
