Janitzio (Spanish Language with English Subtitles)

SPANISH: Unos extraños llegan a pescar a Janitzio, isla en el lago de Pátzcuaro, Michoacán, Zirahuén, uno de los indígenas que tienen la exclusividad de la pesca, lucha con uno de los extraños y lo mata. Otro extraño, el especulador Manuel, se ríe de las advertencias del lugareño don Pablo, quien le aconseja no meterse con las nativas. Al protestar Zirahuén por los abusos de Manuel, que vende el pescado al precio que le conviene, éste lo hace meter en la cárcel. A Eréndira, novia de Zirahuén, Manuel le ofrece la libertad del indígena a cambio de pasar con ella unos días en Pátzcuaro. Zirahuén sale de la cárcel, se entera de todo, mata a Manuel y perdona a Eréndira al saber por un tal Luis lo que ella ha hecho por él. Sin embargo, Tacha, enamorada despechada de Zirahuén, instiga a la población contra Eréndira y ésta es muerta a pedradas, de acuerdo con una tradición. Zirahuén se mete con el cadáver de Eréndira en el lago.English: Some strangers come to fish on Janitzio, an island in Lake Pátzcuaro, Michoacán. Another stranger, the speculator Manuel, laughs at the warnings of the local man Don Pablo, who advises him not to interfere with the native women. Manuel offers Zirahuén’s girlfriend, Eréndira, to be released in exchange for spending a few days with her in Pátzcuaro. However, Tacha, Zirahuén’s spurned lover, instigates the town against Eréndira, and she is stoned to death, according to tradition. Zirahuén then throws Eréndira’s corpse into the lake.
