United Kingdom. A 1796 Pattern Infantry Officer's Sword
This is classic example of the 1796 pattern infantry sword, featuring an 80 cm etched blade with a fuller running 1/3 length from the guard. Etching is worn and light, however is visible and displays symmetrical floral patterns along the course of the blade. The guard itself is brass gilt and features a hinged inner guard so that the sword could rested flush against the uniform when worn. The handle is of walnut and has a crack from drying on the inner edge, and does not interfere with display. Fine overall and an excellent pre waterloo display piece.
