Premium Glaze Water Jar - Various sizes available

The Premium Glaze Water Jar is a double-fired ceramic jar made in three sizes, 47 x 54cm, 55 x 65cm and 65 x 87cm. It carries ten hand-applied glaze colourways from ocean blues to gunmetal, each double fired for depth and for frost resistance. Of the jar shapes in this range it is the easiest to place: even the largest is only a little taller than it is wide. The second firing gives the glaze its frost resistance, and the colours hold through Australian summers and frosty mornings. No volume figures are published, so plan around the width. 47 x 54cm, 23kg. The most practical for planting: takes a plant from a 250mm or 300mm nursery pot with room to spare. 55 x 65cm, 34kg. A step up in both directions, and the size for a 25L shrub or a small clipped standard. 65 x 87cm, 66kg. Nearly 900mm tall. Use it as the anchor at the end of a path or beside a pool. Material, weathering and drainage Material. Double-fired ceramic with a hand-applied glaze. All measurements are outside dimensions, so the usable soil volume is smaller than the silhouette implies. Outdoors. Frost resistance comes from the double firing, and the glazes keep their colour outside. Depth of colour and pooling vary between jars, which is the nature of a hand-applied finish. Drainage. It drains from the base. Keep the holes clear and raise the jar on pot feet so water escapes freely, and use a saucer if it goes indoors. Cover each hole with a single layer of fibreglass flyscreen, never fabric or geofabric, because both clog. Add 50mm of 10mm gravel, then a quality premium potting mix, never garden soil.
