S 3160 – Transparent Matte
Product Code: S-3160 – Transparent Matte Recommended Firing Range: 1020–1040 °C Form: Supplied as a liquid in 175 g, 500 g, and 1000 g packages. Application Properties Transparent Matte Glaze is a specialty glaze that combines high transparency with a matte surface finish. While preserving the visibility of the underlying clay body and decorations, it provides a natural, silky matte appearance instead of gloss. This allows decorative details to remain clearly visible while creating an aesthetically pleasing surface with reduced reflection. To achieve the best results, the glaze should be applied in a thin and even coat. Due to its formulation, it is particularly sensitive to thick applications. Excessive application thickness may cause a cloudy, whitish appearance known as “bor veil” to develop on the surface. This effect reduces the glaze’s transparency and may negatively affect the clarity of both the decoration and the clay body. For optimum performance, the glaze should be applied with a uniform thickness across the entire surface. For brush application, a single thin coat is sufficient. Excessively thick applications may result in undesirable surface variations and reduced transparency. Produces a matte surface. Does not run within the recommended firing temperature range. Acid resistant and free from toxic substances. Application Methods Suitable for brush application. The recommended application thickness is one coat. For spray gun or dipping applications, it is recommended to add approximately 5–30% water to adjust the consistency. Recommended Baumé (°Bé): 36–39. Testing Recommendation We recommend that customers using our glazes for the first time prepare test tiles under their own firing conditions and application methods to evaluate the results. Preparing both vertical and horizontal test pieces according to your application technique will help you better understand the glaze’s behavior. The sample shown in the product image was applied over CMR 250 White Casting Body. When combining this glaze with another artistic glaze or with other glaze groups, we recommend conducting tests beforehand to avoid possible incompatibilities or defects. Care and Cleaning When washed in a dishwasher, the glaze surface may be exposed to high-temperature chemical detergents. Over time, this may result in changes to the matte finish or the artistic characteristics of the glaze. Safety The use of appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) during application is recommended. Since glazes interact with heat, they should be kept away from fire and open flames during application. Children should use the product only under adult supervision. Storage Store the product in a tightly sealed container, protected from direct sunlight and air exposure. If the glaze begins to dry after prolonged storage, add a small amount of water, mix thoroughly, and strain before use. After opening the container, the application aids, stabilizers, and preservatives contained in the glaze may gradually lose their effectiveness over time. This generally does not affect the fired result, but it may reduce application performance, making the glaze more difficult to apply or causing pre-firing surface cracking.
