Description The Chinese Art-Deco rugs were predominantly produced in the 1920s and early 1930s. Traditional Chinese motifs (peonies, dragons, clouds, lotus flowers) were combined with the angular, often asymmetric layouts made popular in the western Art-Deco movement. Layouts often featured expansive 'negative space' to allow the striking colors and isolated motifs to command attention. In a departure from these styles, this 'end of day' rug reflects a meticulous handiwork absent a formal design: likely woven for use locally vs export overseas.
