Acer negundo ‘Flamingo’ (Elder box)
Acer negundo ‘Flamingo’, also known as Variegated Box Elder, is a deciduous ornamental tree grown for its distinctive and colourful foliage. It makes an excellent specimen or feature tree, particularly where attractive foliage is the main focus. The pinnate leaves emerge with broad pink margins, developing into a striking combination of green, white and pink as they mature. The foliage provides colour through spring and summer before taking on yellow tones in autumn. In winter, the bare branches reveal attractive pale grey stems, giving the tree interest even when it has lost its leaves. A vigorous grower, ‘Flamingo’ can reach approximately 4–8 metres in height and spread when fully established. It is therefore well suited to medium-sized and larger gardens, borders, lawns and feature planting, where it has room to develop. Its colourful variegated foliage makes it particularly effective as a specimen tree or focal point, and it can also be used in cottage, informal and urban gardens.
