Munich Royal Hofbräuhaus
Munich Royal Hofbräuhaus is a watercolor painted by Adolf Hitler around 1913–1914, signed at lower right and titled at lower left. It records the corner facade of the Hofbräuhaus am Platzl, Munich's royal brewery house, with a horse-drawn carriage waiting by the arcades. He painted this subject repeatedly for sale to tourists and frame shops. From May 1913 to August 1914, Hitler lived in Munich and supported himself by painting city views for tourists, frame shops, and private clients. Works from this period — painted immediately before World War I and long before his political career — are handled today by auction houses, archives, and museums as documents of historical record.
