Songs of Kentucky Women
Songs of Kentucky Women with Julia Purcell This class is for those interested in learning more about the influence of women in vocal and instrumental music traditions of Kentucky. We will learn from the recordings of Cousin Emmy, Addie Graham, Sarah Ogan Gunning, Lily May Ledford, Jean Ritchie and Edna Ritchie. We will sing their original songs, traditional ballads, Appalachian spirituals, and social justice/protest songs. We will typically learn 2 songs per class. This is an adult class open to students aged 15 and up.
