Art Deco Patek Philippe “Top Hat” from 1947 The Patek Philippe Ref. 1450, affectionately known among collectors as the “Top Hat,” is one of the manufacture’s most distinctive rectangular watches of the 1940s. Produced and sold in 1947, as confirmed by its Extract from the Archives, it captures the architectural elegance of the Art Deco era in remarkably refined proportions. Its sculptural 18k yellow gold case frames an untouched silver velvet-finished dial, creating a beautiful contrast between warm precious metal and the softly textured surface. The subsidiary seconds and restrained hour markers preserve the clean symmetry that makes these early shaped Patek Philippe watches so appealing. At just 24.5 mm wide and 36.5 mm long, the case is elegant rather than imposing, yet its strong geometry and stepped architecture give it remarkable wrist presence. Compared with the countless round dress watches of the period, this unusual form gives the Ref. 1450 an unmistakable identity. Inside beats the manually wound Patek Philippe Cal. 9''90, a movement specifically suited to the slender proportions of shaped wristwatches and a beautiful example of Patek Philippe’s ability to unite movement architecture with case design. Accompanied by a Patek Philippe Extract from the Archives confirming its production and sale in 1947, this is a wonderfully preserved example of one of the maison’s most charismatic vintage designs - architectural, rare, and unmistakably Patek Philippe. - wrist size in our picture is 18cm circumference - DIAL: original never touched silver velvet finished dial in great condition original hands & crown STRAP & BUCKLE: black GOLDAMMER KARDINAL Alligator Embossed Leather Watch Strap / 2 mm thick original 18k yellow gold buckle CASE: great overall condition, showing minor traces of use 3- body 18k yellow gold case with snap-on case back 24.5 mm (without crown) / 36.5 mm (lug-to-lug) / 17 mm (between lugs) / 8 mm thick reference: 1450 Year: 1947 produced and sold (confirmed by Extract from the Archives) total weight: 36 g MOVEMENT: Patek Philippe Cal. 9"90 - manual wind 18 jewels, 19800 A/h, 40 hours power reserve professionally serviced 08/2026 -5 sec/d / 320° BOX & PAPERS: Extract from the Archives of Patek Philippe (issued March 2026) GOLDAMMER certificate of authenticity & service documentation card GOLDAMMER box
