Camera Model: Voigtlander Vitoret R Serial#197683 Description: The Voigtländer Vitoret R is a charming, fully mechanical 35mm rangefinder camera manufactured in West Germany by Voigtländer between 1964 and 1966. Introduced as a more budget-friendly alternative to their premium “Vito” line, the Vitoret series aimed to bring German engineering to everyday consumers. The “R” variant stands out because it packs a coupled optical rangefinder inside a solid, heavy-set aluminum body. Unlike previous automatic cameras, the Vitoret R features no light meter and zero electronics. It is a completely analog, manual shooting experience. You do not need to hunt down obsolete button cells or worry about corroded wiring—the mechanical system relies entirely on your own exposure calculations (or a smartphone light meter app) to function, making it an excellent learning tool for true film purists. Specifications: Lens: Voigtländer Lanthar 50mm f/2.8. A classic, sharp 3-element glass triplet configuration known for delivering bright, distinctly vintage color rendering. Focusing: Coupled rangefinder. Looking through the viewfinder reveals a central focusing patch; turning the front lens ring overlays the dual images until they perfectly merge into focus. Distance markers are available on the lens barrel (often marked strictly in feet on export models). Exposure: Fully manual. The photographer must manually turn the outer lens rings to set both the aperture (ranging from f/2.8 down to f/22) and the matching shutter speed. ISO Range: Non-applicable to the exposure system, as there is no internal light meter to calibrate. However, an exposure calculator disc on the camera allows you to manually dial in your film speed (up to standard 400 ASA) as a personal reference reminder. Metering: None. Requires a completely external handheld light meter, a smartphone metering app, or reliance on the classic “Sunny 16” rule to gauge ambient light. Shutter Speeds: Mechanically governed Prontor 125 leaf shutter. Offers a limited but highly reliable set of four speeds: 1/30s, 1/60s, 1/125s, plus a Bulb (B) mode for long manual exposures. Flash: Features a cold accessory shoe on the top plate for mounting gear, paired with a front-facing PC sync terminal socket for attaching electronic flash cables. [1] Power: Completely mechanical.
