The True Piraiba Catfish is one of the ultimate monster freshwater catfish and an iconic species among serious predatory fish keepers. Known for its streamlined silver body, enormous mouth, long barbels, and incredible growth potential, the Piraiba is a true giant of the Amazon basin. At approximately 6 inches, these juveniles are an excellent grow-out size. Piraiba are active, powerful predators that can grow to enormous proportions and should only be purchased by experienced aquarists capable of providing exceptionally large long-term housing. They require excellent water quality, extremely strong filtration, substantial open swimming space, and appropriately sized tankmates.
