Wow, what a rare find! Gorgeous, entry door salvaged from a late 1800's home in Northeastern, PA. The door is made of solid Douglas Fir and is completely painted green. It has a single window with its original, wavy glass and 2 raised panels below. The panels are contoured with egg and dart molding on the exterior (front) side. Also on the exterior side only, there is a ledge protruding below the window. The ledge has steps and dental molding underneath. There is a lovely, carved-wood motif in between the ledge and the top panel. The motif consists of 2 bows connected with a draping, floral garland. The portions of the bow and garland that are supposed to be hanging directly below the bow are missing from the bow on the left side of the door (see photo, and look to your right). I didn't notice this until I sat down and looked through the photos I took, so it's something that most casual observers wouldn't catch. If you want the motif to look congruent, you could either remove the same pieces under the bow on the right side or add the missing pieces to the left side. The former is the easiest/fastest fix and the latter is much more difficult but is truer to the original. Hardware: The door comes with two 4"x4" hinges but no lockset. However, we have a good selection of period hardware in the "Hardware" section of our store, and tons more in our physical store. Someone plugged the original lock mortise (hole) with wood in order to install a modern lockset. The plug is basically a block of wood that someone shoved in there without securing it too well. We could remove the plug and fill all 3 holes--message us for a quote. Uneven Height: The door's height was unevenly cut by 1" most likely to compensate for the home's settling foundation or warped floor. We could cut the door to an even 80 3/4", narrower/shorter, and even build it up to make it wider/taller--message us for a quote. Swing: Once installed, the door would swing into a the house and end up on your right side. It could also be installed to swing out to your left. If you need a different swing, message us and we could give you a price to make the change. Condition: The door is strong, sturdy and in great structural condition. One of the end portions of the ledge broke off and there is a thin piece of wood that broke off from under the top hinge (see last photos). We could fix these--message us for a price. Otherwise, just expect the typical scrapes, scratches, and small nail holes that you would expect to find on an old, used door. However, there are no serious breaks, cracks, gouges, rot, or warp. The glass is intact and in great condition with only subtle scratches. A door this old, with carved decorative embellishments and it's original wavy glass are getting harder and harder to come by. Considering that it is 36"x80"+ makes it even more desirable. Don't miss out!
