Basha Bekele Kokose is a natural heirloom from Kokose village in the Bensa district of Sidama, grown by Basha Bekele from local heirloom varieties. It is bold and rich, with grape, red orange, forest berries, and tropical fruit. This is one of the coffees we roast and pour in our own Mazelab shops. I always buy more than we can get through, so I share the extra as green. Write to me for what is in stock and a sample.Ripe cherry is floated, sorted on raised tables, and dried whole on African beds under clean mesh until it settles near 11.5 percent moisture, then hulled at Basha's own mill in Bombe before export from Addis Ababa. Kokose sits on Nitisol soils between 2350 and 2500 masl, a rising name next to Gonjobe, and its cherry is set aside mainly for natural and anaerobic lots. The farm covers 55.5 hectares with an annual crop near 17.5 tonnes.Basha Bekele is one of the youngest and most driven producers in Bensa. He took on farms across Murago, Kokose, and Gonjobe from 2021 and has built his network village by village. From his single farm lots in Gonjobe he won the 2024 Cup of Excellence and Taste of Harvest (TOH) 2025.
