Eero Saarinen Executive Side Chair for Knoll Mid Century Modern Black Metal

This mid century modern Executive Side Chair designed by Eero Saarinen was manufactured by Knoll in 2019. Introduced in the 1950s, the Saarinen Executive Chair brought elegance and comfort to the then-drab world of office space and executive seating. Recognizing the importance of user comfort, Saarinen became one of the first designers to create a chair with a molded shell that flexed subtly in response to the body, offering a softer, more comfortable alternative to the rigid seating of the period. With its timeless shape, graceful proportions, and wide range of upholstery and base options, the Saarinen Executive Chair is now used as frequently in dining rooms as in offices and is available with and without arms, with metal or wood legs, and with an optional swivel base. This armless example features black tubular steel legs with a fixed base and is upholstered in striking Knoll Arrondissement fabric in the color “Champagne.” Knoll logo fabric dust protector and Knoll product content label to underside. Eero Saarinen Eero Saarinen (1910–1961) was one of the most influential architects and furniture designers of the twentieth century. Working closely with Knoll, he created some of the company’s most iconic furniture, including the Executive, Womb, and Tulip Chairs. Unlike many architects of his era, Saarinen believed that every project should have its own distinct design language rather than a single recognizable style. His willingness to approach each commission as a unique design problem made him one of the defining figures of modern American architecture. His landmark architectural works include the TWA Flight Center at New York’s JFK Airport, the Gateway Arch in St. Louis, and Dulles International Airport near Washington, D.C. Knoll Founded in 1938, Knoll has been one of the most influential manufacturers of modern and mid century modern furniture through collaborations with many of the twentieth century’s leading architects and designers, including Eero Saarinen, Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, Harry Bertoia, and Florence Knoll.
