Burj Al Arab (Blind) is an original painting from Olivia Boa’s distinctive “Blind” collection, created for her May 2014 Dubai exhibition. For this exhibition, Boa applied both her “Blind” and “Pixels” styles to some of Dubai’s most iconic landmarks, producing five paired works as well as a Dubai Skyline in “Pixels” only. In her “Blind” works, Boa paints blindfolded and without visual control, allowing instinct, emotion and spontaneous movement to guide the composition. The result is a fluid and intuitive interpretation of the Burj Al Arab, with forms emerging through gesture rather than precise structure. Sensitive, expressive and deeply personal, the painting reflects Boa’s exploration of harmony through freedom from visual constraints. This approach contrasts with her more structured “Pixels” style, in which colour and form are carefully organised to create a more analytical interpretation of the same subject.
