A vintage collectible bashōfu (banana fibre cloth) from Okinawa. Bashōfu is one of Okinawa's most celebrated traditional textiles, handwoven from the fibres of the Japanese banana plant. It has a long history and is renowned for its labour-intensive production process, requiring exceptional skill, time, and care. This piece dates from the early to mid-20th century and was originally part of a kimono. Woven in natural beige with fine brown stripes, it has a slightly thicker hand than the other pieces.
