The stock paper gaskets blow out. They leak. They don't handle high exhaust temps. PRL's downpipe gasket is stamped from KLINGER graphite laminate which seals properly at high temps up to 450°C and conforms to irregular flanges. This is a 3" ID bore gasket that fits between the downpipe and front pipe (or between the front pipe and exhaust on Accord models). It's designed for PRL downpipes but it fits any 3" downpipe. The graphite laminate construction provides excellent chemical resistance and high-temperature stability. You're installing this once and it's not leaking. It's sealing correctly and it's staying sealed through heat cycles. KLINGER Graphite Laminate - Handles 450°C Without Failing PRL's using KLINGER graphite laminate SLS material which is expanded layers of graphite bonded to a thin 0.05mm stainless steel foil. The graphite layers conform to the flange surface even when the flanges are slightly warped or irregular. The stainless foil provides structure so the gasket doesn't blow out under pressure. The material handles exhaust temps up to 450°C (842°F) without degrading. Stock paper gaskets fail at high temps. They harden. They crack. They leak. The KLINGER graphite laminate stays flexible through heat cycles and maintains the seal. The adhesive layer's less than 1% of the graphite content which means the gasket's mostly graphite with just enough adhesive to hold it together. More graphite means better sealing and better temperature resistance.
