Riet Wijnen: Sixteen Conversations on Abstraction Tool Two (Clock)

For Art Rotterdam 2026, Kunstinstituut Melly is pleased to present Sixteen Conversations on Abstraction Tool Two (Clock), a special limited edition by Riet Wijnen. On this green ceramic clock with sixteen digits, the 24-hour timekeeping system, often used for digital clocks, slips into the analog 12-hour clock system: the digit '16' is placed at 4 o'clock. These time systems are often so deeply ingrained in our bodies that we no longer recognise these abstract constructs as tools. This subtle slippage opens up the rigid systems designed by us to live according to the clock. This edition is part of Riet Wijnen's ongoing cycle Sixteen Conversations on Abstraction, in which the color green serves as a code for 'time'. Through this body of work, she investigates overlooked and yet-unknown histories of abstraction. Her research also involves deconstructing the structures and tools we use to articulate histories and, through this process, proposing new ones. €2000 excluding VAT.
