Victorian Sterling Silver, seed pearl and enamel pocket watch
Description : Seed pearls applied to a piece of jewelry during the Victorian era were sometimes a representation of tears in mourning jewelry. This pristine timepiece could have been a gift for someone mourning a loved one. 36 natural round creamy white seed pearls surround the circumference of the watch dial and the back of the case. This pocket watch is a perfect example of the enameling process called Guilloché which is a type of intaglio engraving on metal by turning the surface on a rose cutting machine. It is then covered with brilliant orange-ish red vitreous enamel over the pattern, which can then be seen underneath the translucent enamel. This pocket watch is about 25mm in diameter, and more petite, possibly made for a woman. Item Number : P19707 Category : WATCH Brand : CF
