This haori family crest is called 「横木瓜」Yokomokkō is a variation of the traditional mokkō family crest, a Japanese motif said to be inspired by the cross-section of a gourd or a bird’s nest. It is characterized by its soft curves and horizontally balanced form, and was historically used by samurai families. In recent years, its decorative appeal has led to its appreciation as an ‘oshare-mon’ (stylized crest), embraced with a more free and contemporary sensibility beyond formal conventions.
