A woman's perfume tells more about her than her handwriting... - Christian Dior The history of perfume bottles is as intoxicating as the fragrances they hold, weaving together art, culture, and the timeless allure of scent. From ancient Mesopotamia to modern-day ateliers, these vessels have evolved as expressions of both utility and artistry. In antiquity, perfume bottles were handcrafted from alabaster, ceramic, and glass, prized not just for their contents but for their beauty. The Egyptians, masters of fragrance, designed ornate vessels to hold their sacred oils and unguents, often sealed with delicate stoppers to preserve their precious contents. The Greeks and Romans continued this tradition, favoring intricate amphorae and blown glass as they perfected the art of scent preservation. By the Renaissance, perfume bottles became opulent treasures, reflecting the era's fascination with luxury. The 18th and 19th centuries brought further innovation, with crystal and silver-topped bottles becoming symbols of refinement on every dressing table. Found at market just outside of Paris, we are pleased to present this lovely Antique French Perfume Bottle from the 1920s in original condition. Lovingly crafted of cut glass that has been embellished with sweet flowers, the precious vessel is an early example of atomizers used today. Originally spring loaded with a push down button that could be sealed completely for travel, this wonderfully sleek Art Deco vanity accessory is topped by a trademarked brass lid marked Depose (trademarked) and Pol. While its signature scent is a mystery long relegated to days gone by, the smart style of this beautiful bottle will surely never fade. Strictly one-of-a-kind and subject to prior sale. In good antique condition. 4.25"H x 2" in diameter.
