It measured small quantities of pharmacy drugs in the now obsolete UK measure of grains. The price has been adjusted as one of the brass weights is missing: see images. 1 grain is equivalent to 64.799 milligrams (0.0648g) 1 gram (g)= 15.432 grains (gr) Beautifully made, there is no maker's mark but they date to the Early 20th Century. I haven't been tempted to clean or polish either the weights or box as some people prefer to see the existing patina: (and it might affect the weight!). The box is made from hardwood, and a wonderful colour, with brass hinges and hook clasp. A nice little collectible for use with your vintage apothecary scales or just for display!
