PAIN MANAGEMENT AND PROCEDURAL (CONSCIOUS) SEDATION IN THE EMERGENCY SETTING
Pain is the most common presenting complaint in the emergency department, and its prompt, effective, and safe management remains one of the core responsibilities of emergency medicine practice. Yet pain management and procedural sedation continue to be areas where evidence-based protocols are too often replaced by habit and personal experience in day-to-day clinical care. With this book, our aim has been to bring together, in a single resource, the full spectrum of this field: from the pathophysiology of pain and methods of assessment, through the general principles of pain management in the emergency setting, to the diagnosis and treatment of specific pain syndromes, the particular challenges of special patient populations, the clinical pharmacology of analgesic and sedative agents, ultrasound-guided interventional pain management, and procedural (conscious) sedation. To this end, the book has been organized into seven sections and more than forty chapters, shaped through the contributions of a large number of experienced academicians and clinicians in the field. Each chapter has been designed to bridge current literature with the practical demands of everyday practice, offering not only theoretical background but also recommendations that can be applied directly at the bedside. We hope that this book will serve as a practical, reliable reference that emergency physicians, residents, and all healthcare professionals working in this field can turn to in their daily practice. We extend our sincere thanks to all section editors and authors who have devoted their time and effort to this work. With the hope of contributing to a practice in which every patient in pain in the emergency department can be managed better… Editors Özgür KARCIOĞLU MD, Professor Canan AKMAN MD, Associate Professor Gökhan YILMAZ MD, Associate Professor Pınar Yeşim AKYOL MD, Associate Professor
