Heru (hair comb) carved from real beef bone. Large (18cm long) 4 prong comb. Manaia is a spiritual guardian and messenger in Maori mythology, symbolizing the balance between the physical world and the spiritual realm. Acts as a protector, guiding the wearer through life and warding off negative energies. Also available in Koru, Tiki, Whale tail, Pikorua twist and Pikorua triple twist. Heru are used to hold and decorate hair in a bun (top knot). Traditionally the head was considered the most sacred part of the body. Because hair was believed to retain a person's spiritual essence the Heru served as a way to honour and protect that spiritual connection. Available with or without woven kete (bag).
