COBI Tiger II King Tiger V2 Set 2736

COBI's Tiger II King Tiger V2 is a 1:48 model of the prototype preserved at The Tank Museum in Bovington, built from 552 blocks in cooperation with the museum. The tank that found the faults V2 was the second of three trial vehicles Henschel built before series production of the Tiger II — hence the name, V for Versuch, trial. Completed around the turn of 1943 to 1944, it was never issued to a combat unit. It went to Henschel's proving ground at Haustenbeck and spent the rest of the war there being driven, measured and taken apart. That work mattered. The tests on V2 exposed problems with the fit of the engine air filters, with the travel lock meant to hold the gun steady on the move, and with the escape hatch in the hull floor — faults Henschel could correct before they reached the tanks sent to the front. It still carries a modified exhaust pipe fitted for one of those tests. British troops captured it at Haustenbeck in 1945. Today it is the oldest surviving King Tiger, and The Tank Museum has launched a public appeal to restore it to running order. In the COBI range Set 2686 is the same King Tiger V2 at 1:28.
