Pair of Golden Art Glass Table Lamps by Flygsfors, Sweden, 1960s
A pair of sculptural table lamps by Flygsfors, Sweden, from the 1960s. The bases are made in golden mirrored glass with a bold stacked form, alternating rounded and ribbed sections above a wide flared foot. Their highly reflective surfaces give the lamps an expressive quality that changes with the surrounding light. The lamps are now paired with newly made conical shades in a natural off-white fabric. The tall, sharply pointed form creates a strong contrast with the rounded glass bases, while the neutral fabric balances the rich golden finish. The new shades give the pair a clean, graphic silhouette while producing a soft and warm light when illuminated. Flygsfors was a Swedish glassworks active during much of the 20th century and became particularly associated with decorative and art glass. These lamps show a more functional side of Swedish glass production, using an expressive glass form as the central element of an everyday object. A great pair for bedside tables, a console or either side of a sofa. The combination of mirrored gold, sculptural proportions and simple fabric shades gives them plenty of character while remaining easy to place in both vintage and contemporary interiors.
