La Bohème 2023
Country: Germany Region: Baden Grape variety: Gutedel Alcohol by volume: 9,5% Bottle size: 0,75 l Sulphur: 16mg/l La Bohème was first made in 2018; the first of the Haus GuPi line which puts Gutedel and Pinot in the spotlight. Back then, there was no Gutedel in the area being produced unfiltered. The grapes for ’23 come from old Gutedel vineyards from Johannes and Christoph’s grandfather in Haltingen, harvested after the Pinot varieties and carefully selected in the vineyard. It’s a process that takes time, but guarantees healthy grapes arriving in the winery for vinification. The result is a charming Gutedel with balanced acidity that dances between grass and pear. Cloudy but not funky, entry level but enticing. A wine that represents both the region and a local variety, and has the potential to bring more people into this way of farming.
