Cordless Reel Mower with Integrated Groomer The Falkenstein Consul Groomer brings a technology to your garden that until now has mainly been known from the golf course: a groomer with its own drive that works with every cut. Add to that three separate electric motors, a Tournament Cut bedknife, a reel with 8, 10 or 12 blades, a grass catcher where it doesn't get in the way while mowing: at the rear, and a choice of two cutting widths. Height of cut 0.12 to 0.6 inches (3 to 15 mm). The Consul Groomer is built for closely mown, dense turf. If you also want to mow higher, the Falkenstein Consul Comb is the right machine, covering 0.12 to 1.4 inches (3 to 35 mm). Cutting width 15.7 or 21.7 inches (40 or 55 cm). The 40 cm version is easier to handle on smaller lawns with tight corners, the 55 cm version covers larger areas in fewer passes. Technology and cut quality are the same on both. Pre-order now The Consul is available for pre-order now. We build the first series over the winter in our workshop in Bramsche, Germany, and deliveries start in March 2027, in time for the start of the mowing season. We appreciate everyone who puts their trust in us at this early stage. Everything about pre-ordering: process, payment, cancellation For pre-order customers The first 50 pre-orders of the Consul series (Consul Groomer and Consul Comb combined) receive a 15 percent pre-order discount. The first 20 of these also get their Consul in a RAL color of their choice at no extra charge. Normally, a custom color costs extra. Simply select the "Custom RAL color" option when ordering. After your order we will contact you by email, confirm that your order is among the first 20 and agree on the color with you. Once all 20 places are taken, the regular surcharge applies again. What makes the Consul Groomer special What is a groomer? In professional turf care, a groomer is a rotating tool mounted directly in front of the cutting unit: a shaft with many star-shaped blades side by side. Its job is to lift lateral shoots (stolons) and flattened grass blades before the cut and so reduce horizontal growth. Conventional groomers usually run at high speed and cut into the plants themselves, which puts additional stress on the turf. Our approach: lift instead of cut On the Consul Groomer, the groomer deliberately turns more slowly. It does not cut, it only lifts laterally growing blades and shoots so the reel can catch them cleanly. The actual cut is left entirely to the reel and bedknife. The result: a clean finish in a single pass with as little stress on the turf as possible. Infinitely adjustable, disengaged when not needed The groomer is integrated into the machine and works with every mow, with no conversion and no separate pass, just like on greens mowers on the golf course. It can be adjusted in height independently of the reel, so you can set how deep it reaches into the grass and how intensively it works. When it is not needed, it can be raised far enough that it no longer touches the grass and only the reel mows. Why the height of cut range ends at 0.6 inches (15 mm) For the groomer to work, the tips of its stars have to reach into the grass just below the set height of cut. How far they reach depends on the diameter of the stars and the space between front roller and reel. We designed the stars as large as this space allows, so the groomer works up to a height of cut of 15 mm. Larger stars would collide with the reel or the roller. Mowing higher would not make sense with the Consul Groomer anyway: grooming works on closely mown, dense turf, where flattened blades and runners would otherwise slip under the reel. At higher heights of cut a groomer no longer adds any benefit. For the full range of 0.12 to 1.4 inches (3 to 35 mm) there is the Falkenstein Consul Comb, with a comb instead of a groomer. Three motors, three tasks Rear roller, reel and groomer each have their own electric motor. Each drive works independently and at exactly the speed its task requires, instead of being driven by chains or belts from a shared motor. This is the only way to run the groomer slower than the reel. Reel and groomer are direct-driven without a gearbox, the rear roller is driven via a planetary gearbox. The motors are built specifically for this mower by a German motor manufacturer and run very quietly. Choose the right reel The lower you mow, the more cuts per meter you need for an even finish. That is why the Consul Groomer is available with an 8, 10 or 12-blade reel. For the best possible result, we recommend choosing the reel based on the height of cut you mow at most of the time: Height of cutRecommended reel 0.12 to 0.2 inches (3 to 5 mm)12-blade reel 0.24 to 0.4 inches (6 to 10 mm)10-blade reel 0.43 to 0.6 inches (11 to 15 mm)8-blade reel This recommendation refers to the best possible finish: as many grass blades as possible are caught cleanly, and at very low heights you get the most even surface, for example for a good ball roll. In principle, every reel can also be used outside these ranges, so a 12-blade reel will also mow at 10 or 15 mm, for example. The result is better, however, when the number of blades matches the height of cut. If you want to mow at a different height later on, the cutting unit can be converted. Tournament Cut bedknife The bedknife is a Tournament Cut, the design used on golf course greens. Reel and bedknife are made of high-strength steels. Infinitely adjustable height of cut The height of cut is adjusted infinitely via two knurled nuts. Enclosed cutting unit With three driven shafts, safety comes first for us. The cutting unit is fully enclosed, reel and groomer are not accessible during operation. Battery powered The battery is included. We will publish capacity and area coverage per charge as soon as testing with the prototype is complete. Spare batteries are available directly from us, like all other spare parts for the Consul. Built like a greens mower Bolted cutting unit On a golf course, nobody swaps the reel for a scarifier. Greens mowers have a permanently installed cutting unit, because that is the only way the adjustment stays right over time. That is exactly how we built the Consul. The cutting unit, made up of reel and bedknife, is bolted on from below with four bolts. The rigid, distortion-free connection keeps a cutting unit adjusted to within hundredths of a millimeter exactly where it belongs during operation. For service and sharpening, it can be removed downwards as one unit after loosening the bolts. Only the cutting unit needs to be sent in, not the whole machine. Relief ground from the factory Like all our reel mowers, the reel of the Consul is relief ground. This is the grind greenkeepers have their reel mowers sharpened with. It reduces the contact area between reel and bedknife to a narrow cutting edge. That means less friction and a longer-lasting sharp cut between sharpening intervals. Rear grass catcher The grass catcher sits at the rear. While mowing, you see the cutting edge instead of a catcher, and the machine can be guided closer to edges and flower beds. A full catcher sits over the pivot point above the rear roller, improving balance when turning. The catcher can be removed without tools. Why Consul The idea of a rear catcher is not new. In 1976 the Australian manufacturer Scott Bonnar launched the Diplomat, a reel mower with an enclosed reel at the front and a grass catcher at the rear. It was ahead of its time and was discontinued after the company was taken over. Since then, hardly anyone has taken on the concept. The Diplomat was our inspiration, and the name Consul is our tribute to it.
