Nikki Nair, Majestic Animals

Here’s 'Majestic Animals' Nikki Nair’s first solo EP for Hyperdub, following the ‘Nagoya EP’ alongside Foodman last year. Preorder now and get Groundhogs upfront - the EP is released on the 16th October Nikki recommends: ‘‘I think this record is good to listen to while seeing animals, and I was thinking about these animals while making the music. Animals are beautiful and mysterious, and I was likely thinking about this while writing this.’ Majestic Animals goes the extra mile on originality, exploring the sounds and limitations of blunt MIDI instruments in combinations of pastoral melodies that lean into minimalism— something like Philip Glass composing for Sonic the Hedgehog, but built into dexterous footwork/jungle shapes. You’re unlikely to hear anything quite as fun and refreshing on the dance floor this year. WAV / FLAC / MP3
