A 5 micron polypropylene cartridge that takes out sand, silt, rust and scale particles and shields everything after it Ecosoft CTO carbon block. Reduces chlorine, trihalomethanes, heavy metals and organic compounds. This one matters as much for the membrane as for you, because chlorine degrades membranes and the carbon block is what keeps stage 4 alive Your choice. A 1 micron sediment filter for finer particle removal, or granular activated carbon for extra chlorine, odour and taste polishing Ecosoft 50 GPD RO membrane. The heart of the system, rejecting up to 99% of dissolved contaminants including fluoride, lead, PFAS, nitrates and dissolved salts Ecosoft coconut carbon post filter. PP sediment, 1 micron. Choose this if your water carries visible particles, or you are on an older supply with cast iron or galvanised pipework. It catches the sludge and scale the 5 micron prefilter lets through and gives the membrane an easier life. It is also the safe default if you do not know which your system came with Granular activated carbon. Choose this if taste and smell are the priority and your water runs clear. It gives chlorine, chloramine and oil based compounds a second pass before the membrane, which suits heavily chlorinated mains supplies Will it fit my system? The 10″ x 2.5″ cartridge is the industry standard, so this set fits the great majority of under sink RO systems sold in Ireland, including Ecosoft, PurePro, Supreme, Proline Plus, Pallas, Platinum Wasser, EirSoft, AquaSoft and Perfect Water Systems. The simplest check is to pull one cartridge out and measure it. If it is roughly 25 cm long and 6 cm across, this set is your replacement. Not sure? The prefilters and the post carbon filter are consumables and typically last 6 to 12 months depending on how hard your water works them. The membrane lasts considerably longer, usually two to three years, provided the carbon block ahead of it is changed on schedule. That is the part people get wrong. A tired carbon block lets chlorine through, and chlorine is what destroys a membrane. Changing the cheap cartridges on time is what protects the expensive one. Fitting your new cartridges Turn off the feed water valve and open the RO tap to release the pressure Close the tank valve so you are not draining stored water across the floor Note which way round each cartridge comes out. They go back the same way Hand tighten the housings only. The wrench is for opening, not closing Flush the system and discard the first full tank before drinking Prefer not to do it yourself? A genuine Ecosoft 50 GPD membrane is included, which is the expensive part of any RO service. Many sets sold as replacement filters cover the prefilters only. What does 50 GPD mean? Gallons per day, the rate at which the membrane makes purified water. 50 GPD is the standard rating for domestic under sink systems. If yours was fitted with a higher output membrane, get in touch and we will sort the right one. Do I need to flush the system afterwards? Yes. New carbon cartridges shed a little harmless dust on first use, so let the system fill and discard the first full tank before you drink from it. How do I know when the membrane needs replacing? A TDS meter is the reliable test. Compare the reading at the RO tap with your ordinary cold tap. If the filtered figure has climbed above roughly 10% of the unfiltered one, the membrane is past its best.
