Roman Holiday (1960r) - FRAMED
An original 1960 re-release Paramount Pictures Publicity Still #10059-46, framed. Gregory Peck watches as Princess Audrey Hepburn enjoys a gelato on the Spanish Steps. It's the moment the runaway princess tastes her first day of freedom in Rome, and one of the most loved scenes in romantic cinema. Generations of visitors have since gone to the Steps to recreate it. Roman Holiday was Hepburn's first starring role, and it made her a star overnight. Peck reportedly insisted that the unknown newcomer share top billing with him, convinced she would win the Oscar, and she did, taking Best Actress at 24. The film's screenplay also carries a famous story: it was written by the blacklisted Dalton Trumbo under a front's name, and his credit was only restored decades later. Issued by Paramount for the film's 1960 return to cinemas (re-release code R60/345), with the original 1953 copyright line and National Screen Service details in the lower margin.
