World's Simplest Mitten KAL - 1/8 & 1/15

Knit-Along: The World’s Simplest Mittens Ready for a new pair of mittens for yourself or a giftable little who lives up north? Let’s knit them together! Grab your favorite yarn and join us for a two-session Knit-Along featuring Tin Can Knits’ wonderfully approachable—and completely free—World’s Simplest Mittens pattern. Whether you’ve made mittens before or are ready to take on your first pair, this KAL will give you the guidance, encouragement, and company to keep those needles moving. We’ll break the project down into manageable steps, talk through the mitten construction, and tackle the parts that can feel a little intimidating when you’re knitting on your own. Session One: Cast On & Get Growing We’ll get familiar with the overall mitten construction, work through the cuff and hand, and knit our way to the thumb gusset increases. We’ll talk about how the mitten is taking shape and what to expect as you continue knitting at home. Session Two: Decrease, Conquer & Finish! We’ll pick up where we left off and dive into mitten decreases and small-diameter knitting for the thumb. We’ll explore different ways to knit a small circumference—including DPNs, two circular needles, or magic loop—and help you find the method that works for you. And, of course, there will be plenty of time for questions, troubleshooting, and showing off your progress! What to Bring The free World’s Simplest Mittens pattern from Tin Can Knits, downloaded and ready to use Yarn in one of the weights included in the pattern Needles appropriate for your yarn and your preferred method of small-diameter knitting: DPNS, two circulars or one long circular Consider bringing a couple of needle sizes. For a warm, durable mitten, you may want to use needles slightly smaller than the size suggested on the yarn label to create a dense and warm fabric. Skill Level: Comfortable beginner and up. You should be able to cast on, knit, and cast off. Experience with increases and decreases is helpful, but not required. Be ready to try knitting in a small circumference—and possibly discover your next portable project addiction! For project-based classes, we require your yarn to be purchased at Shrimp and Knits with a 10% discount in advance of the class. Notions: Stitch Marker, tapestry needle, scissors - whatever is in your notions bag! Sizes: Toddler - Adult A minimum of three participants is required for this class to run. Enrollment is reviewed 48 hours before the scheduled start time.
