Used NO.226 Antique Suzhou Indian Sandalwood Dragon Head Erhu – Feng Yi Xing Workshop, Republic Era (1912–1949)
This antique Suzhou erhu was produced by the historic Feng Yi Xing workshop during the Republic era (1912–1949), a predecessor to the Suzhou National Musical Instruments Factory established in 1954. Crafted entirely from premium Indian sandalwood, including both the neck and resonator, the instrument exhibits a dense, solid feel in hand—an indicator of high-grade material and traditional craftsmanship. A defining feature of this piece is its hand-carved dragon head design, symbolizing refinement and status in classical Chinese instrument making. Such artistic detailing is rarely found in modern production instruments. The structure remains in excellent original condition, with no damage or structural issues. The snakeskin has been newly replaced, allowing the instrument to maintain reliable performance while preserving its antique core. With decades of natural aging, the tone is mature, stable, and full-bodied. It delivers a rich, expressive sound suitable for both stage performance and refined personal playing. This erhu represents not only a musical instrument but also a valuable historical artifact from early 20th-century Suzhou craftsmanship—making it ideal for collectors and serious musicians alike.
