Antique Georgian Garnet mourning urn pendant, Locket

A wonderful and very special antique Georgian mourning urn pendant. It is designed as a memorial urn, a piece created for a loved one that needed to be remembered, it is decorated with an array of caliber cut garnets, each one hand carved and shaped to fit within the border of the urn, a painstakingly difficult job but nothing too much to create this magnificent piece. It is crafted in 9ct rose coloured gold with a small pendant bale to the top for hanging from a fine fold chain or a black velvet ribbon. Beneath the glazing is a lock of finely plaited light brown hair, a keepsake frozen in time, the reverse has a locket compartment which can be opened up and the hair removed or changed, it would work as a tiny shaker locket with some small gemstone chips. A wonderful and scare piece from the Georgian era.
