Portrait Painting using Old Masters Techniques
Tutor: Carl Randall | Saturdays 10am-4pm | 6 weeks This course is an introduction to various techniques and approaches taken by great portrait painters from the past. Through study and analysis, the projects will give you the opportunity to learn how to apply some of the methods used by historical painters, taught in a structured and step by step manner. The course focuses on the idea of using various colour under-paintings (Grisaille, Brunaille, Verdaccio), adding colour using dry brushing and glazing techniques, and creating a ‘cartoon’ preparatory drawing. Students are required to bring their own materials and should refer to the materials list below before their course starts. (#SA11)
