Te Deum

To rightfully mark 40 years at the helm of the James Taylor Quartet, the eponymous keyboard virtuoso returns to Acid Jazz with one of his most ambitious projects to date. Te Deum reimagines the ancient Christian text through a new fusion of jazz, funk and Latin rhythms, all performed alongside the children of the Benenden Chapel Choir with guest horn players and longtime collaborator Snowboy. From the samba-infused 'Have Mercy On Us' to the spiritual jazz flourishes of 'The Comforter,' the album manages to be ripe with experimentation but never short of warm groove. Its bold and expands the Quartet's sound without losing its soulful core.
