Cut Flower Icelandic Poppy Gray Floral Pastels Seedling Pack
Papaver nudicaule Cut Flower Icelandic Poppy seedlings, grown in Marlborough by Gray Floral, shipping NZ wide. Over the years we have released a couple of 'Gray Floral House Poppy' mixes instore - but last season we really knuckled down on the rogueing and consistent seed harvesting to be able to bring this mix to the nursery & online in better quantities. We have selected plants from several different Icelandic Poppy varieties including Matilda Pastels, Springsong and the Pastels with a Pop, and our hope was to create a mix that included all of the lovely lemon, pink and peach shades, along with some soft creamy colours and the odd picotee. As this is a mix still in progress, we expect there to be the odd revert and rogue colour - most likely red or orange given the base colours of the Matilda & Springsong mixes. We will continue to work on this over the coming season, but while you may get the odd off type (approx 1 in 100 by our trials) our trial grows have produced a lovely colour mix perfect for bouquet and wedding work, as well as garden performance. A lot of love & work has gone into this mix, and we are so excited to share it with you. 6 Gray Floral Pastels Icelandic Poppy Plants Standard NZ shipping included. NOTES ON GROWING Height: 30cm Spacing: 20-25cm Harvest: Icelandics are best harvested in the 'cracked bud' stage, where the bud is bursting at the seams but the casing is still on. Once they've opened the bees will quite literally beeline and the vase life is greatly reduced. I find they last the longest if you either sear the ends with open flame for 7-10 seconds, or dip the ends in near boiling water for 10 seconds and the bubbling from the stem stops. Vase life: 5-7 days if heat treated on harvest All our seedlings are grown in a custom cut flower mix which contains Trichoderma to assist in healthy root development and resistance to root pathogens. To give your seedlings the best start in your garden we recommend soaking them in a weak seaweed feed (or one of our "Seedling Shots") before planting. We wrap our seedlings bareroot in newspaper to maintain moisture and pack them with utmost care. We recommend if you're not ready to plant them immediately that you do pot them up until it's time for them to go in the garden, and be sure to give them a good water on arrival. We are proud to be partnering with Sustaina Grow to package our seedlings in a wool outer that maintains moisture and protects the seedlings in transit. This wool liner makes a wonderful mulch mat that can be used with your seedlings or around any plant in your garden. Everything apart from labels (which we hope you'll use in the garden and time and time again) and stickers are compostable, in an effort to keep our shipping sustainable for the environment.
