X-Block Hydraulic Adapter Convert a Single-Acting Power Unit into a Dual-Acting Hydraulic System The Primary Mover X-Block Hydraulic Adapter is a compact, patent-pending hydraulic valve designed to allow a single-acting hydraulic power unit to operate a double-acting hydraulic cylinder or jack. Originally designed for dump trailers and hydraulic jack systems, the X-Block creates a simple and cost-effective way to add dual-direction hydraulic control without replacing your existing power unit. The X-Block features a 4-port design labeled: P, T, A, and B. By changing the handle position, hydraulic flow direction is reversed, allowing the cylinder to extend or retract using the same single-acting power source. How It Works When the handle is turned one direction: P → A B → T When the handle is turned the opposite direction: P → B A → T This flow-switching design is what gives the X-Block its name and allows a single-acting hydraulic pump to control both extension and retraction of a double-acting cylinder. Important Installation Notes If you are using this with a dump bed and hydraulic jacks on the same power unit, you will need a manual selector ball valve to switch between hydraulic functions. If you are using the X-Block only for hydraulic jacks or another dedicated hydraulic function, a selector valve may not be required. Your hydraulic system must allow for a proper return path to tank. Yes. The X-Block was specifically designed to allow a single-acting hydraulic power unit to operate a double-acting hydraulic cylinder or jack. Do I need a selector valve? If you are running both your dump bed and hydraulic jacks from the same power unit, then yes — you will need a manual selector valve to switch between circuits. If your power unit is dedicated only to the jack circuit, the X-Block can often be used without a selector valve. What do the P, T, A, and B ports mean? P = Pressure T = Tank / Return A & B = Work ports to the hydraulic cylinder The handle changes flow direction internally so the cylinder can extend and retract using the same hydraulic source. Do I need counterbalance or holding valves on my jack? It is strongly recommended. While some customers have used the X-Block without holding valves, doing so requires a strong understanding of hydraulics and system control. For safer and more controlled operation, we recommend using hydraulic jacks equipped with counterbalance or load-holding valves.
