Your body is talking to you
Your Body is Talking to You is part of a practice designed to explore your emotional world and develop skills to manage emotions. This approach was created based on an exploration of scientific findings on the connection between emotions and well-being. Challenges this approach addresses There’s a lot of talk about emotions, yet many of us don’t fully understand their role in our lives, and even when we recognize their importance, applying the benefits of emotional intelligence in daily life often remains a challenge. This practice addresses these issues by synthesizing knowledge about how emotions influence well-being, including why emotional management is an essential life skill that helps navigate life’s inevitable challenges and how managing emotions appropriately benefits multiple areas of life beyond emotional health, extending to personal growth, social life, academic achievement and professional development. Then these insights are transformed into simple summaries and short activities designed not only to fit modern, busy, fast-paced lives, but also to deepen self-understanding and develop the skills to handle emotions in healthy and balanced ways, so you spend less time understanding and more time practicing. How this practice works Designed to gradually develop emotional awareness and skills for regulating emotions, controlling impulses, and responding to situations in flexible, healthy ways. It is divided into three workbooks. Each includes a summary of key insights and exercises combining self-reflection and journaling to cultivate these skills progressively. How this workbook brings the practice to life This workbook lays the foundation for the entire practice by helping you develop awareness of bodily sensations—an essential skill for managing your emotions—while also nurturing other abilities that cultivate emotional awareness, enabling you to begin using your emotions to work for you rather than against you, and simultaneously setting the foundation for skills such as emotional regulation, clear and respectful emotional expression, and thinking before acting, among others. In addition it also helps strengthen interoception, often called the sixth sense, which helps you tune into your body’s signals, understand what it is communicating, and respond more consciously to its needs. Ultimately, this workbook helps you develop the skills to connect with your inner compass and work in harmony with your body to make better and more informed decisions in life. Who this practice is for Emotional management skills influence many areas of life, making them essential for everyone and important to nurture from childhood. However, this practice is designed to begin with adults, helping them first develop these abilities so they can model them for the children around them. But specially for Parents of children and adolescents facing emotional challenges: Those who may have the greatest need to develop these skills themselves, because children and adolescents learn emotional regulation from the emotionally regulated adults around them.
