Capturing the Light - Plein Air in Tucson

Plein air locations include the dramatic desert scenery and the natural glow of the pink adobe casitas at Tanque Verde Ranch, as well as the stunning landscapes of Saguaro National Park and Agua Caliente Park. This workshop emphasizes using a limited palette to create natural-looking color and capturing the feel of each plein air location. Kathleen will teach how to plan for success with thumbnail sketches while creating dynamic designs from the subject matter at hand. Students will learn how to take the stress out of plein air painting and bring fun into the process. Kathleen's approachable teaching method includes lectures, demos, individual and group critiques, and lots of one-on-one instruction. The workshop days are chock-full of information and inspiration. Students will also have the exciting chance to study, photograph, and sketch horses on the ranch. As an extra bonus, Kathleen will demonstrate her method for drawing live animals and discuss incorporating field sketches and photographs into larger studio works.
