I spent most of my life in Colorado, and in my final years in Boulder, I felt a deep and persistent calling to the island of Maui. I envisioned myself as the steward of an animal sanctuary, and those who know me have shared in this vision. I didn’t know how or when it would come to be, but I was always clear on my why: Animals have an inherent right to live peacefully, and contributing to that peace gives my life a deep sense of purpose. Anam Cara is a Celtic term meaning “soul-friend.” In this spirit of kinship, I am devoted to caring for and protecting the animals who call this sanctuary home. I support this sanctuary through my work—creating art, teaching, and publishing—so these animals can live safely and peacefully here with me in Maui. Support is never expected, but always deeply appreciated.
