It is dedicated to disc playback, and does not have disc recording functionality. Released in 1996, it has a magnesium diecast construction, and features one song repeat, all repeat, and shuffle repeat playback modes. Due to its age it does not support MDLP. It was one of the first units to utilize the rechargeable 1.2V Ni-MH 'gum' battery. It weighs 120 grams without a battery or disc installed. It has a 3.5 mm headphone jack for audio output.
