Antique Tufted Club Chairs in Blue Crushed Velvet

These antique club chairs began life as traditional English forms before being recovered in Hong Kong approximately forty years ago by an Australian family living and working there during the period. The result is an unusual combination of classic buttoned upholstery, generous club chair proportions and a distinctly late twentieth century interpretation in blue crushed velvet. The shaped backs and softly sweeping profile introduce a more sculptural silhouette than most traditional club seating, while the skirted bases and deep tufting retain the visual weight associated with earlier examples. These are the sort of chairs that tend to appear in interiors where collected pieces have been assembled over time rather than specified all at once.
